ILLUMINATIONS
Researchers until recently believed that the illuminations in the Miroslav Gospel served only decorative purposes. However, recent studies by art historian Dragana Aćimović have uncovered a unique symbolism behind the initials and their connection to the text. These findings step by step reveal that Serbian medieval monks were among the most educated people in Europe at the time.
